The Western & Southern Open semifinal match between Maria Sharapova and Ana Ivanovic on Saturday caused the Russian tennis player to lose her temper.
The match, won by Ivanovic, ended with the score 6-2, 5-7, 7-5 and lasted for two hours and 45 minutes, Yahoo Sports reported.
Sharapova showed her disappointment even earlier during the game when Ivanovic left the court prompting her to direct remarks to chair umpire Felix Torralba about her opponent's exit from the court.
Yahoo Sports said that Sharapova never got "a clear answer" on what Ivanovic's issue was -- though it seemed like she was suffering from "anxiety."
"I never actually got a clear answer on what it was, but, I mean, I don't know. Could have been something like an anxiety [attack] or something. I'm not really sure what you take blood pressure for. We played a pretty long point afterwards and she seemed to be doing well. Not really sure what was going on there," Sharapova was quoted by Sports Illustrated as saying.
Sharapova blasted her opponent's distress as Ivanovic appeared fine after a long and gruelling point in the game. According to Yahoo Sports, Sharapova said that it had a "strange timing" and that it "came out of nowhere."
The Russian tennis superstar reportedly lacked information on Ivanovic's concern and said that there was no medical timeout called during the game.
For her part, Ivanovic said that she felt dizzy because of excitement during the game.
"Yeah, I just said after I landed after that serve I just felt so dizzy. And then they wanted to track my blood pressure. I was like, I'm fine, I'm fine. I didn't want to cause any pause," she told Yahoo Sports.
The same report said that Ivanovic thought her condition might have been caused by something she ate prior to the game.
"I think I ate something bad today. When my coach was coming out, I kept telling him I don't feel good, like my stomach is really upset. Then it really built up in the third set, and I was not feeling fine. They gave me some pills, and after some games it was better," she was quoted by Yahoo Sports as saying.
The Serbian player reportedly suffered occasional medical incidents in the past like in the Indian Wells 2012 match against Ksenia Pervak.
She faced Serena Williams on Sunday for the finals but lost in a match that lasted for 62 minutes. According to ESPN, Williams took control of her serve and took advantage of Ivanovic's "sloppy" performance.
