New photos allegedly showing a brand new iPhone 6 have surfaced online thanks to TMZ. Don't they do entertainment news? Anyhow, the photos look legit, and show the phone in considerable detail. With the iPhone 6's reported September launch drawing closer each day, photos of an actual phone were bound to leak out eventually. But is this actually an iPhone 6?
TMZ's source allegedly "smuggled" the phone from a Foxconn facility in China and is an "ex-employee" who worked in the firm's hardware department. Nice. It's not unusual for employees to snap photos of unreleased devices and publish them; in fact, the whole tech leak business kind of relies on that now.
If this actually is an iPhone 6--and it appears to be--it would confirm a few of the rumors about the phone, like the raised camera housing and thinner design. TMZ also claims their source says the phone feels "noticeably lighter" than previous iPhones and that it also "appears to have a new sensor on the front," though they didn't elaborate. Judging from the photos, the front panel shows a speaker and front-facing camera at the top of the phone. So, unless this "sensor" is not easily visible, these guys are crazy.
The new phone does look significantly larger than the iPhone 5S, which in some of the photos they hold the two phones next to each other for comparison. The phone also appears to be running iOS 7 instead of iOS8, which is supposed to launch on the new phone. It could be that this is a test device since it would be strange for a device to be running a final version of its OS at this point.
Apple has a lot of huge releases slated for this fall, and the iPhone 6 is just one of them. Cupertino is also pushing out OSX Yosemite (their new OS for Macs) as well as a new iPad Air and iOS 8. Better get those credit cards ready. You also might want to invest in some Apple shares while you're at it, because it looks like it's going to be an amazing quarter for Tim Cook & co.
