Fans and contemporaries of the late Robin Williams have begun creating tributes to the actor's life and work. From fan tributes on Youtube to Disney executives, and even the military, there has been an overwhelming outpouring of appreciation of what Williams meant to so many.
It has also been revealed that in addition to suffering from deep depression stemming from financial woes, Williams was also apparently in the early stages of Parkinson's disease. Fans have recently gathered at the house which was featured in Mrs. Doubtfire, one of Williams' most memorable roles, and are leaving mementos and flowers in honor of the actor.
Disney also paid tribute to Williams in a few ways. Eric Goldberg, one of the lead animators for Disney's Aladdin, drew a special portrait of film's Genie as a way of paying his respects.
Goldberg also released a statement about Williams passing: "We have lost not just a great voice, though. We have lost a warm, human, miraculous person whose numerous and amazing talents will continue to inspire people for generations upon generations."
Walt Disney Company Chairman and CEO Bob Iger also released a statement which accompanies Goldberg's image above. "Robin will always be remembered for bringing some of the world's favorite characters to life," Iger stated. "He was a true Disney legend, a beloved member of our family and he will be sorely missed. We join Robin's friends and fans everywhere in mourning, and offer our thoughts and condolences to his family during this difficult time."
Not known to many, Williams was also a huge supporter of U.S. troops overseas. Williams made several tours to American soldiers stationed abroad in order to voice his support and appreciation for their efforts. A video below shows one such visit where Williams entertained troops overseas on Christmas.
Williams was also honored by the current Broadway production of 'Aladdin,' which you can watch below. The cast of the show led its audience in a final rendition of 'Friend Like Me,' one of the most iconic songs from Disney's animated hit, and in which Williams' 'genie' took center stage. Williams had previously starred in a Broadway production of Waiting for Godot alongside Steve Martin.
