What started out as a couple of prank photos posted by a grandmother in Ohio has now turned into an investigation into an infant's welfare, in which CPS and local authorities are involved.
Jackie Sheaks, a grandmother from Columbus, thought she was being funny posted controversial photos of her baby granddaughter -- one with duct tape securing her pacifier to her face, and the other of the young baby lying in a roasting pan -- but it turns out most of Facebook, and authorities in Ohio, disagreed.
Thanks to those photos, which come complete with some roasting potatoes and a turkey pan, Sheaks earned herself the attention of not only shocked Facebook users, but the sheriff's office as well. The authorities in Columbus were alerted after the photos began to draw ire from social media users.
Sheaks is now speaking out to defend herself from the allegations of abuse, saying that she uploaded the photos to be amusing, not controversial.
‘It started as just a joke,’ she told 10TV. ‘We put a little tape on the pacifier because we were being silly.’
In return, Sheaks has had to explain herself to the local sheriff's office, as well as investigators from CPS, who expressed concern over the baby's well-being after viewing the photos.
Her husband, Tommy Sheaks, now says that the family is being harassed after the photos depicting the roasting baby have gone viral.
Still, Jackie defends her choice, saying that she's been in charge of photographing the children in her family for years. It seems, though, that the CPS interest may have caused her to be a bit more careful in the future.
According to the interview, Sheaks says she has learned her lesson about sharing those prank shots.
‘What we think is funny other people don't. Iit will never happen again. It's definitely taught us a lesson,’ she said.
And it seems she has at least one supporter. The baby's mother, who hasn't been named, doesn't see anything wrong with the photos.
