Director J.J. Abrams is at it again.
In another teaser post using the Bad Robot Twitter account, the 48-year-old "Star Wars: Episode 7" director has given yet another leak about the upcoming film. In a post that hits two birds with one stone, so to speak, Abrams' photo shows a robotic droid arm, holding a handwritten thank you note, signed by Abrams himself.
The note was written on one of the director's named personal note cards. Abrams' post updated the public on the success of "Force For Change," a charitable fund-raising initiative for UNICEF that gave fans a chance to vie for a walk-on role in the new film.
Per CinemaBlend.com, the project was held between May 21st and July 18th and by donating, participants get a chance to be picked for the movie's advanced screening and a role in the 7th installment of the sci-fi franchise. "Each time he's appeared speaking on behalf of his fund-raising effort, he's dropped a small clue or two to some aspect of the film's universe. This time, he didn't just drop a clue, he plunked down an entire hand," reported the site.
J.J. Abrams revealed that the project raised over five million dollars. He thanked everyone who gave generously and announced the contest winner, DC Barns of Denver, Colorado. A statement on the contest via the winner video wrote:
"The grand-prize winner was D.C. Barns of Denver Colorado, who shared during on a donor video chat that the first time he saw Star Wars when it opened in theaters in 1977, when he was only five. 'I loved it! ... I just couldn't get it out of my head of 35 years.' D.C. was then asked to share his favorite Star Wars moment. As he began to reply, he was suddenly surprised in his Denver office by members of 'Star Wars: Force for Change' team."
"This! This is my new favorite Star Wars moment!," exclaimed the "Star Wars" fan.
The campaign's site announced that Disney has committed $1 million to support the launch of the "Force for Change" initiative that benefits UNICEF.
Speculation now surrounds what the little robotic hand tidbit could mean. It might just be sneak peek into what fans can expect from the movie or it could be linked to the earlier plot rumors reported first by Badass Digest.
"Imagine the standard Star Wars crawl, and when it ends the camera pans up to the stars. But instead of a spaceship zooming into frame we see... a hand! A severed hand, tumbling through space. A severed hand gripping a light saber." Hmmm... What do you think?
"Star Wars: Episode VII" opens in theaters on December 18, 2015.
