Man, when AMC says teaser trailer, they really mean teaser trailer. Audiences were given a nine second taste of what can be expected from the "Breaking Bad" spinoff.
The footage shows a younger Saul Goodman who appears to be in mid-discussion, probably with a prospective client, saying: "Lawyers: we're like health insurance. You hope you never need it, but man oh man, not having it? No, phew."
For "Breaking Bad" fans who know Saul, played by actor, Bob Odenkirk, and how he operates, this succinct clip captures the personality and business mindset of Goodman.
According to the National Post, "Production on the series has already begun, with a large billboard advertising Saul's services appearing in Albuquerque - the city that Breaking Bad's central action also called home - in July." The billboard sports Saul's photo, visibly younger but bearing the name, James M. McGill, Saul's birth name.
The number featured on the billboard leads straight to Saul's voicemail, reported some callers. Those who called the number could hear the voice of Odenkirk running through the voicemail message.
Per The Independent: "'Better Call Saul' will find the crooked lawyer going under the name James M. McGill, an Irish identity he used before switching to a name more suitable "for the homeboys".
Expect the series to air in February 2015. Other stars you can expect to see include Michael McKean, Jonathan Banks of "Breaking Bad", Patrick Fabian, Michael Mano and Rhea Seehorn.
The show was supposed to premiere in November 2014, but was bumped to a later date. Co-creator, Vince Gilligan, explained why the move was warranted. According to the The Hollywood Reporter, he's "slow as mud" and he feels he's "very slow for television." Due to this, the series will have an early 2015 bow.
Speaking on the appearance of characters from the parent series, "Breaking Bad," which ended earlier this year, "I don't think we're giving anything away to say we're still figuring this out - including if and when we'll see some of these characters," said Gilligan per THR. "We like nonlinear storytelling. I would point you in the direction of anything that was possible on Breaking Bad is possible on Better Call Saul."
Back in 2012 when the idea was all in the air and talks were only beginning, the potential of the spinoff appealed to Gilligan. Deadline quoted, during an interview held July of that year: "I like the idea of a lawyer show in which the main lawyer will do anything it takes to stay out of a court of law. He'll settle on the courthouse steps, whatever it takes to stay out of the courtroom. That would be fun - I would like that."
It seems like that's exactly what's going to be taking place in the upcoming series.
