Gamers may see similar features in PlayStation 4 and Xbox One as Sony allegedly copied some of the features of its rival's console.
According to Extreme Tech, Sony's PlayStation 4 will include an upgraded version of the Eye Toy, more popularly known as PlayStation 4 Eye. This feature will allow gamers to control "on-screen objects and control the console with their voice."
This upgraded version of the feature includes two cameras and four directional microphones so that it can pick up any movements or sounds in a given room. It is much like the components used in the Kinect sensor which was first introduced with the Xbox 360.
Recently, Sony also announced that the PlayStation 4 Eye will respond to gestures and voice control much like the new Xbox One's Kinect. According to GottaMobile, executives of Sony confirmed that PlayStation 4 will include many of the same features of Kinect for Xbox One, including face recognition.
The main difference between the two, however, is that the PlayStation 4 Eye will not be included with the PS4, but will be a separate add-on purchase. The Playstation 4 console costs $399.99 and the PlayStation Eye costs $59.99, while the Xbox One will embed the feature in the consolefor a tag price of $499.
Earlier reports claimed that Sony initially planned to include the feature in the box but later scrapped the idea to offer the console at a lower introductory price. While this is understandable, experts also say that this may diminish the importance of the PS4 Eye, especially for game delevopers.
Besides the PS4 Eye camera, two other features Sony announced as add-ons were a DualShock 4 Charging station and a PS4 vertical stand.
PlayStation 4 will be available for purchase on November 15. Xbox One will hit the market a week later.
