Apple's iOS 8 is nearly ready to debut this fall, and for followers and users of Apple's mobile operating system, there's a ton of changes that will make the wait worth it when new OS becomes available for download this fall. Currently, there's no exact launch date available yet.
Only registered developers can download the beta version of iOS 8 from Apple's developers website. Apple iOS 8 will work from phones as old as the iPhone 4 and include the iPad 2 and iPad Mini 2.
Who doesn't love to take photos with their Apple device? The new native photo app is brimming with features, and the kicker is that it automatically saves your photos to the new revamped iCloud Photo Library. You'll never have to worry about having to delete a photo from your device to make room, again. Apple says the iCloud Photo Library keeps both photos and videos in iCloud, and stores them at their full resolution and format they were shot in--including RAW files.
If you take a lot of photos and get overwhelmed finding shots from weeks and months ago, there's a new way to find them. Apple added a smart search photo feature to the mix. There's also a way to do time-lapse videos, which was previously something only in-the-know iPhone photographers knew about. Filters and the ability to adjust the light and contrast after you take the photo is an added benefit of the upcoming iOS 8. New smart composition tools also allow the straightening and easy cropping of photos.
Adding to the photo extras, Apple has added built-in filters as well as third-party filters to give your shots and extra edge.
The look of the iOS 8 will also be a bit different and include an app to help users get the most of the OS update by providing tips, according to reports. There's also a new look for the control center as well as the settings menu, which will reportedly include separate panels for wallpapers, display and brightness.
iOS 8 is expected to attract a new generation of fitness fanatics as one of its selling points. As Forbes.com says, "iOS 8 will be released with a Health App which Apple touts as giving 'an easy-to-read dashboard of your health and fitness data.'"
Other updated features include:
QuickType settings are now referred to as "Predictive"; Spotlight uses Bing Search for web results; web results in Spotlight can be toggled off, more options to delete video/audio messages after 2 minutes or never are now present, according to iDownloadblog.com.
Beta testers have been able to spend time with the iOS 8 beta in recent weeks and here's what they do and don't like:
Interactive notifications
"There are tons of great ways for developers to utilize this feature and it's going to change the way people use their phones," says the site BGR.com.
Continuity features
This will make using your Apple products across devices and Mac platforms easier.
Photo app
"Integrated photo-editing features and Family Sharing, and Safari extensions have plenty of potential," says BGR.com
One of things that's not a big draw in the new version of Apple's mobile operating system is the new Spotlight feature, which includes movie showtimes, App Store items, results from the iBooks store, iTunes picks, news, Wikipedia, nearby locations and lots more.
"There's a big problem: Apple's Spotlight UI is absolutely horrendous," reports BGR.
