NFL player, David Wilson, became emotional as he bid goodbye to his career on Wednesday.

The player, according to New York Daily News, also sent a parting message to his New York Football Giants teammates telling them to "be great" every day and every moment in their careers noting that he has learned that "the end is always just one play away."

"And every time I watch a Giants game or a football game and see people play that I actually had a chance to meet, I want to see them try to be great. Because it can be taken away," the 23-year-old Wilson was quoted by New York Daily News as saying.

He also added that he wants to see his mates play every Sunday, Thursday and Monday giving it their best. "That's where my joy will come from."

On Monday, doctors told Wilson that it would be too dangerous for him to continue playing with his neck condition and asked him to withdraw from the sport. The New York Daily News report also noted that Wilson has been aware of the possibility that he cannot continue playing after he suffered a neck burner just after he came back from neck surgery.

In a similar report by the New York Post, it noted that Wilson began crying when he remembered all the support he received and the honor playing for the NFL.

"These are tears of joy, man. Don't for a second you all think that I'm pitying myself, or sad, 'cause I got to live my dream. And I'll set another dream and be great at that. 'Cause I always look at trying to be great in whatever I do," he added.

The New York Post report added that Wilson played with the Giants only for two years but said that he is very much thankful for being part of the team.

"When life knocks you down, I always say, 'Plan to land on your back. Cause if you can look up, you can get up. If you fall flat on your face, it can kill your spirit," Wilson emotionally said.

Retirement at a very young age of 23 will not "kill his spirit" or "amazing grace," Wilson clarified.

Wilson added that he would not stop believing and fighting for his dreams as God has other plans for him.

"I prayed that the doctors would give me the same answer that God would give me if I asked straightforward. We don't have that capability. I can ask, but God works through people. I asked him to do that with the doctors and they gave me the answer. That's why I'm comfortable with that answer," Wilson explained.
