Former "Grey's Anatomy" actress, Katherine Heigl, finally reveals the real reason behind her exit from the hit medical drama series.

In her recent interview for Good Housekeeping Magazine September 2014 issue, she shared that she chose to stay with her family because being busy with the show made her miss important points in her life as a mom.

"I didn't get to wake her up from her nap, or do bath time or bedtime. I'd have to sneak into her room and kiss her when she was sleeping, hoping not to wake her up," the 35-year-old actress said on missing valuable milestones of her first adopted daughter's life, Naleigh.

She also admitted that her priorities became messed up and she somehow forgot along the way that "family comes first," reports US Magazine.

Daily Mail adds that when Heigl made a decision to expand her family by relocating to Utah, she was sure she wanted a quieter life.

"Utah is spectacularly beautiful, the people are wonderful and kind, it's an easy commute from L.A. - and there's no traffic," "The Ugly Truth" actress explained.

She also opened up about her sister who was also adopted from South Korea, just like her first adopted daughter. Heigl's second adopted child is from Louisiana.

On rumors about her being a difficult actress to work with in the industry, she only emphasized that if she ever disappointed anyone along the way, "it was never intentional."

Radar Online recalls how she first mentioned a different reason on why she left "Grey's Anatomy." It was once reported that she left because she did not like the way how Shonda Rhimes' wrote about her character in the hit television series. She even withdrew her name from the nomination pool of the Emmys.

When Heigl left "Grey's Anatomy" in 2010 after five seasons, she has since concentrated on her career as a movie star, aside from spending more time with her family.

She and her children now live in a farm ranch along with 36 pets which include eight dogs, reports E! Online. Heigl will be frequenting L.A. to promote her brand new spy-themed show,  "State of Affairs"  which will start in November.

The Good Housekeeping September issue with Katherine Heigl on the cover will be available in newsstands on August 12.
