After breaching the 7-million mark in the number of copies shipped, "NBA 2K14" managed to take two spots in Take-Two Interactive history.
The feat makes the game the best-selling sports game in the history of Take-Two and the third best-selling title in units shipped in the United States on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One, IGN.com reported, per chairman and CEO Strauss Zelnick.
"NBA 2K14 continues to expand its global audience and has become our first sports release to cross the 7 million units sell-in mark," he said, as quoted by the report. He mentioned the figures during the company's earnings call for the first quarter of fiscal 2015, IGN added.
The Top 3 placement dethrones the "FIFA" and "Madden" games developed by Electronic Arts.
In a Reuters report available on The Orlando Sentinel, Take-Two Interactive Software reportedly had a better revenue posting than previously expected for the period, thanks to strong demand for "Grand Theft Auto V" (GTA V) and "NBA 2K14."
"The catalog is performing, digitally delivered revenue is performing, recurrent consumer spending is performing and all of that served to deliver better-than-expected results," Zelnick told Reuters in an interview.
That's a narrower loss for the New York-based company, Nasdaq reported. It's all from existing content delivered digitally as there has been no major-title launch for Take-Two between April and June.
"It's gratifying," Zelnick said in the report, "that they performed well without new frontline releases."
According to the same report, "NBA 2K14" is the only game Take-Two offers for next-generation consoles.
The Take-Two's strong showing also comes from a host of other tiltes in its menu, IGN.com said. These include "Borderlands 2" (10 million units shipped), "Sid Meier's Civilization V" (6 million units shipped) and "BioShock Infinite" (7 million copies shipped).
However, Gamespot said, "NBA 2K14," "Borderlands 2," "Civilization V," and "BioShock Infinite" combined haven't shipped as many copies as "GTA V."
The company's holiday lineup for PlayStation and Xbox are "NBA 2K15" and "WWE 2K15," said The Orlando Sentinel.
The current NBA game will be replaced by "NBA 2K15" in October, the same month "WWE 2K15" is slated to be released, Nasdaq said. "WWE 2K15" will also be compatible with the new consoles while "Grand Theft Auto V'"s version for PlayStation 4, Xbox One and PC will be released in the fall.
"Battleborn" is a new action game for next-generation consoles. It will be in the market in the next fiscal year, Nasdaq said.
Meanwhile, the report also said, "Evolve"'s launch had been pushed back until February, which has a light launch schedule. "We're giving the team a bit more time to polish it," Zelnick said.
"We'll have a bit more development time which we think the title deserves," he told Nasdaq.
