A 33-year old woman reportedly killed herself after shooting her husband and their three sons for unknown reasons.
According to a report by San Antonio News Express, police officials of Navarro County have confirmed that Guadalupe Ronquillo - Ovalle seemingly shot her her husband, Israel Alvarez and their three sons aged 4, 8 and 10 before turning the gun to herself. The killing is estimated to have occurred either late Thursday or early Friday. The children were still able to attend school on Thursday but no longer showed up Friday.
The five dead bodies were found Sunday by Alvarez' father after driving to the family's home. According to a report by Dallas News, Alvarez' father decided to visit the family after not being able to contact anyone in the house for a couple of days.
Police officials said that all five victims endured gun shots on their upper torsos. A .22-caliber semi-automatic long rifle was recovered. Sheriff Elmer Tanner of the Navarro County Sheriff's Office said that there was no indication that Alvarez fired any of the shots.
It is still not known why Ronquillo - Ovalle shot her husband and their three children though marital and family problems are most likely. Less than two weeks before the killing, Ronquillo - Ovalle called 911 to report on her husband who "pushed her" while she was calling her sister. Alvarez also allegedly took away her cellphone and removed the battery.
Alvarez was arrested September 11 for a charge of "misdemeanor family violence," a Class C simple assault charge. He was in custody for a couple of days but was released after paying a fine of $367. Reports say that Ronquillo - Ovalle did not file for a protective order.
Family friend Maria Franco also told investigators that both Ronquillo - Ovalle and Alvarez came to her September 16. The couple was reportedly seeking marital and relationship advice from her.
"We can only assume that there were problems in the household," Tanner said at a news conference.
