With Jose Mourinho out of Madrid, Iker Casillas is likely to resume his spot as the number one goalie in Real Madrid.
Speaking with media during a foundation event Casillas stated that he was excited to get back into action during the upcoming Confederations Cup in Brazil. He also noted that he was excited about returning to Real Madrid next season.
"After being out for four months, I'm happy to be called by coach Bosque for the national team. He has given me the much needed confidence and I now feel like a 19-yr-old," said Casillas, who has been included in the preliminary squad of 26 announced by Bosque on Monday for the Confederations Cup, which also includes Chelsea striker Fernando Torres.
"I'm very much looking forward to the challenge and I'm keen to do well for the national side," the 32-year old added.
Casillas also spoke about the challenge of facing an upgraded Barcelona side in the Spanish league next year. Blaugrana recently reached an agreement with Brazilian star Neymar for a five-year contract. Neymar is expected to be Lionel Messi's offensive sidekick and the team's second offensive option.
"I think every team in Spain makes a strong opponent. Barcelona has always been a tough team all though these years. They were strong last season as well and despite that, we managed to do well against them. Messi and Neymar are good players and they will be an impressive duo upfront but we will be ready for the challenge," said Casillas about Barcelona.
Casillas was benched in late December by Mourinho for not being in form. He eventually won back his position, but endured a hand injury that forced him out for months. Mourinho brought in Diego Lopez to replace Casillas and left him as his top option for the remainder of the season.
