Nintendo fans have a reason to celebrate.
The Game Boy was a console game changer. If you were around in the 90s, it was the best thing you could get your hands on in terms of gaming. As the original device turns 25, here's a great way to relive and play games on your new-age tech gadgets.
Although there's a legal concern in using emulations, most people have resulted to jail breaking their devices, which has it's own set of repercussions. The good news is that with developer Riley Testut's emulator GBA4iOS, you can play "Super Mario Land" and "Pokemon Red" free of charge.
CNet notes that following its update earlier this year, users are awarded support to various versions including Game Boy Advance, Game Boy Color, and original Game Boy for gaming.
As a response to the emulator, Apple was said to have pulled the installation certificate of GBA4iOS but when there's a will, there's a way.
The game is a breeze to download, per The Verge, all you have to do is set your device's date to a day before, download the app straight from the website and presto! You've got yourself a free Nintendo handset on your handheld.
Keep in mind, an update was released earlier this year, GBA4iOS 2.0 that's compatible with the iOS 7. The site goes on to report that the software is user friendly with an upcoming 2.1 update due this summer. The said upgrade includes "multiplayer support via Bluetooth/WiFi-Direct."
The program can be customized to the user's preferences including options on the skins, appearance of the app as well as the overall feel of the device. It's also got web browser support that allows you to search and load ROMs or source them from iTunes. GBA4iOS thought of everything, you can even sync the system to your Dropbox for file and data storage.
While it's not the old school Game Boy we all know and love, this is a pretty close option and one that offers you a no-jail break option.
