"Snow White and the Huntsman" prequel, "The Huntsman," starring Chris Hemsworth, has received its go signal and will have an April 2016 release date.

While plot details remain under wraps, the flick will focus on life before Snow White, specifically the circumstances surrounding Eric (Chris Hemsworth) and Ravenna's (Charlize Theron) first meeting.

According to Universal's Press Release via the Collider.com:

"The fantastical world of 2012's global hit Snow White and the Huntsman expands to reveal how the fates of two characters, The Huntsman Eric and Ravenna, intersected before they met Snow White. Chris Hemsworth and Oscar® winner Charlize Theron return to their roles in a new epic action-adventure, The Huntsman. Three-time Oscar® nominee Frank Darabont (The Shawshank Redemption, The Green Mile) directs and wrote the current draft of the screenplay, with earlier drafts by Craig Mazin and Evan Spiliotopoulos. Producer Joe Roth (Maleficent, Alice in Wonderland) once again leads the team in a breathtaking new tale from the legendary saga."

Aside from the film itself, the original "Snow White and The Huntsman" was riddled with controversy as news of an extramarital affair surfaced between then married director, Rupert Sanders and lead actress, Kristen Stewart. During the time of the affair, Stewart was dating Robert Pattinson, her co-star from "Twilight."

British model Liberty Ross and Sanders have finalized their divorce recently while Pattinson spoke of the incident in Esquire UK's upcoming September 2014 issue:

"S--- happens, you know? It's just young people... it's normal! And honestly, who gives a s---?" said "The Rover" star to the magazine.

He admits he went through difficulties, saying: "The hardest part was talking about it afterwards. Because when you talk about other people, it affects them in ways you can't predict."

Neither Stewart, nor Sanders have been confirmed to appear in this new project. It was earlier rumored that Stewart will have less screen time in the movie, however, her name was not mentioned in Universal Picture's press release for the prequel, according to Us Weekly.

Universal Pictures has decided to push back the opening of "The Mummy" by two months to Friday, June 24, 2016, to give way to the "The Huntsman." Its likely competitor is the 3rd installment of "How To Train Your Dragon," which will be released on June 17, 2016, according to IMDb.

Fans will be able to see "The Huntsman" when it bows into theaters on April 22, 2016.
