Tyron Smith has recently signed with the Dallas Cowboys for another eight years in a deal which is worth almost $110 million.

Smith, according to ESPN, is considered by the Cowboys as a "cornerstone of their future" so he was guaranteed about $40 million and another $10 million for his signing bonus. The report also noted that he has two remaining years with the Cowboys.

"Late last week, the Cowboys approached me with a deal I told my agents I wanted to sign. My agents explained the pros and cons of this deal versus one that may be shorter term and/or higher guarantee. After careful consideration, I decided this long term deal was exactly what I wanted," Smith said in a statement quoted by ESPN.

He added that the Cowboys, for the past three years, has helped him during the trying times in his life.

"I felt this was my opportunity to return the gratitude. I am beyond grateful for the Cowboys staff, my teammates, and the fans, and wanted to ensure I was locked in as a 'Cowboy for Life.' I want to thank everyone for their support and look forward to having a star on my helmet for the remainder of my career," he added in the statement.

Jason Garrett, Cowboys coach, also told ESPN that Smith is an important part of the team.

"We talk about building a program and building a football team and he was the first player that we took three years ago in that draft. He's just been everything we've wanted to build this program and this team around. He was really a young player, who we put in really on minute one of day one and he's everything that we thought he would be, both physically, intangibly and just as a person," Garret said.

The coach also noted that Smith's wok ethic is "fantastic" adding that his mental and physical toughness have always been good.

In a similar report, CBS Sports discussed that Smith has apparently given the team "near-unilateral control" on the balance of his career. A league source told CBS Sports that there is almost no way that a player can deal that long.

He reportedly will have no more power to ask for more money even if he performs well during his contract period.

But CBS Sports noted that the details of the contract has not been revealed yet. It looks like its duration "makes it a bad one" for the player, adding that the Cowboys allegedly took full advantage of Smith's eagerness to sign a new contract.
