About a dozen bangs that roared like thunder demolished the popular Macy's building right in the heart of downtown Houston, Texas on a Sunday. Texans witnessed waves that made the ground tremble and a lot of dust filled up the city's skies.

Hundreds of spectators gathered around as sprinklers sprayed water everywhere as the building's prep steps, Yang Wang of the Houston Chronicle reports. The loud bangs together with its smoke cut the historical site in just merely 10 seconds.

Kenyatta Parker, the official spokesman of the Houston Fire Department said that everything happened "according to plan." The crowd, even while staying behind the radius line set by the authorities, cheered on while the Macy's implosion happens.

Some Texans even held their own so-called implosion party in their own residential apartments with drinks and food to celebrate with. Others saw what transpired as "an end of an era."

So what's next to replace that piece of historical land that Macy's once was? ABC local news says that a brand new office building with a retail section for its first floor is set to be built on the exact site. There is still no news yet of when it will be finished but various leaders of Houston are looking forward that the site will become a big part of the downtown's Dallas Street Retail Corridor.

After spending months on brainstorming sessions, the official Downtown Retail Task Force shared their plans to turn the entire Dallas Street into a huge shopping Mecca. One spectator by the name of Blake Whitfield shared that the implosion event was "bittersweet." "Houston's changing and things don't always stay the same, so sometimes it's time for something better," he said.
