Apple fans who are eagerly awaiting the release of the overhauled update of the Apple TV will have to wait just a little bit longer.

Apple is reportedly setting a 2015 timeline but no exact release date has been pegged. What's causing the delay?

The Information wrote that: "Apple employees have cited cable companies ‘dragging their heels' and the pending Comcast-Time Warner Cable merger as reasons the device and accompanying TV service haven't launched."

However, there's another side to the story, noted the website. From the perspective of the cable companies, they deny they're causing the delay and have put forth concerns regarding the abilities of Apple to see the entire vision through.

"They say Apple needs permission from multiple types of rights holders to create the service it wants to offer," Jessica E. Lessin and Amir Efrati of The Information, wrote.

TechRadar.com recalls that this isn't a new issue at all. About a year ago, the said stalemate between cable networks and Apple was already reported and it resulted to "Apple's inability to get a rumored iTV flatscreen set (remember that?) out of the gate."

The next-generation Apple TV is said to be a game changer. It will focus on gaming support and enable integration with apps. Cultofmac.com further wrote: "It has also been reported that Apple and Comcast have been in talks about the streaming service of the new device, while Apple has hired some TV executives to help with negotiations."

In related news, CNBC is now available on Apple TV, as Fortune.com reported that an icon of the cable news network became available on Tuesday. For those interested, you can see clips from the cable company but TV provider login details will need to be provided.

If the Apple TV isn't arriving anytime this year, loyal customers of the Cupertino-based firm can still expect the arrival of the widely anticipated iPhone 6 this September. The device is another rumored game changer brought to you by Apple. The iPhone 6 is anticipated to come in two models: a 4.7-inch device and a larger 5.5-inch device, the first entry of Apple in the phablet market. It's said to have a slimmer frame, enchanced graphics and processing power along with Touch ID and sapphire glass, to name a few features.

What're your thoughts on the Apple TV? Are you interested in the technology or you sticking to your current TV sets?
