The updates contained in Microsoft's Windows 8.1 have been accidentally leaked by none other than the company itself. According to TechRadar, "Microsoft accidentally revealed its release notes for Windows Phone 8.1 GDR1, otherwise known as Update 1, on its Developer Center."
Below are some of the updates and features Windows users can expect:
Star screen folders - According to various outlets, Microsoft's update will finally put Windows users at par with iOS and Android devices as users will be able to organize their apps into folders. It will be done via the same actions as other operating systems, press, drag and drop into the desired folder.
Larger device sizes- Per Winsupersite, the new Windows will support bigger devices and will "target devices with screens up to 6 inches in size. In Update 1, this is going up to 7 inches." This would most probably be related to the earlier announcement of Microsoft on its planned integrated software across devices.
Smart cases - Taking a cue from its rivals, Apple and Samsung, Windows-based phones will have interactive smart cases that allow users to be notified and offer interactive displays while the device is closed.
Touch screen enhancement - TechRadar reports that the The Live Lock Screen beta will "replace boring swipeable pictures with rotating image locks and text that slips off the screen's edge as users unlock their device."
Boosted resolutions - Expect a better resolution from the Windows Phone. "In Update 1, handset makers can add some new resolutions to the mix, including 800 x 1280 (which is just upscaled from 768 x 1280), and qHD 960 x 540 (which is upscaled from 720p). The upscaling means these new resolutions will require no special work from developers to support. 1080p is still the max resolution, however," noted Winsupersuite.
Phone navigations - With the new update, users will now be able to "create a new phone-based address book entry through auto navigation systems," said the site.
Other updates to be included said update would include more options or Store tiles, voice over LTW capabilities, automatic updates, OS compression for efficient storage use, custom lock screens and more.
Microsoft is reportedly working on a new platform which many refer to as Windows 9 dubbed as "Threshold." The company is said to be gearing towards traditional and older version Windows users. Microsoft has received a lot of criticisms from long-time users because the Windows 8 platorm is more suitable for portable devices and not so much for desktop users.
The Update 1 release is expected to be done but a date as to when it'll be specifically launched has not been disclosed.
