Basketball superstar LeBron James will again sport the No. 23 jersey with his return in Cleveland as he joins the Cavaliers for the next NBA season.

Yahoo Sports reports that James confirmed on Sunday that he will again use the No. 23 jersey which was his original number when he started his NBA career.

On his Twitter page, the NBA superstar said that he will have to say goodbye to his former No. 6 jersey which he wore for four seasons when he stayed in Miami from 2010 up to the last NBA season this year.

"23 it is! It's only right I go back. 2·3=6  We still family 6. #HomeTeam #StriveForGreatness," James posted on social media.

According to Yahoo Sports, James' jersey is one of the best selling in the line of NBA apparel worldwide. ESPN adds that James led the league jersey sales for six of his 11 seasons with the NBA. James wore the No. 23 jersey during his high school years in Akron, Ohio, Yahoo notes.

Sydney Morning Herald explains in a report that even before he switched to the No. 6 jersey, James was still wearing his No. 23 during his first games with the Cavs.

He was quoted by the same report as saying before: "I just think what Michael Jordan has done for the game has to be recognized some way soon. There would be no LeBron James, no Kobe Bryant, no Dwyane Wade if there wasn't Michael Jordan first."

And in 2009, the Sydney Morning Heral notes that James expressed his opinion on wearing the No. 23 jersey saying that "no NBA player should wear 23."

"I'm starting a petition, and I've got to get everyone in the NBA to sign it. Now, if I'm not going to wear No. 23, then nobody else should be able to wear it," he added.

He switched to the No. 6 jersey saying that his second-favorite player was Julius Erving. But, according to Sydney Morning Herald, some fans and analysts took his decision as a "snub to the championship lineage of Bill Russell, who wore No. 6 with the Boston Celtics."

In a similar report, ESPN notes that three minutes after James' announcement, Adidas spokesperson Madeline Breskin said that the company has already set up machines for the production of the player's jersey. It added that the facility will be shipping James' jerseys and No. 23 T-shirts to more than 140 accounts in the coming 48 hours.

Although Adidas did not confirm how many jerseys would be initially made and sold, ESPN said that the Cavalier jerseys were initially sold out "in home, away and alternate replicas."

Earlier this month, James signed a $42-million deal with the Cavaliers, ending his stay in Miami which gave him two NBA titles in 2012 and 2013. The team however failed to score a three-peat after Spurs outplayed in this year's NBA season.
