In a brief update of two sentences, the Juventus website said Alvaro Morata, the Spanish forward that had only recently been added to the team, had suffered a left-knee sprain at a Monday pre-season training, with the Bleacher Report saying this isn't the beginning he would have wanted.
The 21-year-old striker, a summer target for Arsenal, arrived at his new club only on Sunday, the Daily Mail says.
The injury will be assessed on Tuesday and the team has not come out with a statement regarding how much time Morata might miss, the report says, although it said that knee sprains normally take several weeks to recuperate.
It came after a clash with backup goalkeeper Rubinho, the Bleacher Report adds, remarking that fans could not believe the unfortunate incident.
Morata was unveiled as a part of the Juventus lineup a couple of days ago, with the Bianconeri paying €20 million for Morata over three years, the report said as per Football Italia. The deal has a get-back option for Real Madrid at the end of the 2015-16 or 2016-17 campaigns, "at predetermined values, up to a maximum of 30million euros," the Independent.ie reports, quoting a statement on the team's website.
The Bleacher Report notes that the player signed in to play for Juventus to afford himself more playing time than he had with his former team in Spain, and that the incident could have now forced him into a position where he will play catch-up for much of 2014-15.
The Madrid native, who chalked up eight goals in 23 Primera Division appearances for Real, has signed a five-year contract with Juventus, the Independent.ie says. His record of 13 goals in 12 appearances in the Spanish Under-21 team, the same report notes, had attracted the interest of Arsenal.
Juventus said, in the Daily Mail report, that Morata will be examined Tuesday but he had already posted a selfie on Instagram with the caption: "For those who laugh at the misfortunes of others... a very big kiss and good luck in life!"
The Bleacher Report speculates that Morata might miss the pre-season sessions following the unfortunate incident as well as the start of the team's Serie A campaign. It's all going to be fine, it predicts however, owing to the duo of Fernando Llorente and Carlos Tevez.
