The United Nations condemned the action, and with Russia, the international body drafted a resolution that called for an investigation into the disaster.
Leaders in the international community blamed Russia's influence on the rebels with the actions and the aftermath of the crash, which led to difficulty for responders and crash scene investigators to make it to the crash site in a rebel stronghold.
