Musical drama series "Glee" has been one of the largest and most popular TV series to date, but on its sixth and final season, "Gleeks" will only have a total of 13 episodes, instead of 22.
According to TVLine, "After months of deliberations with series cocreator Ryan Murphy and 20th TV, the network has decided that the show's sixth and final season will consist of 13 (uninterrupted) episodes."
Hypable added that the show "will return midseason along with several other Fox comedies, likely in January."
E! Online wrote that Peter Rice, Fox's Chairman and CEO assured audiences that while the number of episodes was trimmed, the show will "go out in a way that celebrates it."
"I think Glee is one of the great shows in television history...it was so hot and so big," said Rice during the 2014 Summer TCA Press Tour Sunday.
"It touched so many hearts and it brought social issues to floor and it burned so hot and so fast," he continued. He explained that the decision to cut the number of shows down to a final 13 was decided because "compacting it and doing it in a straight-run was a better way to finish the show."
The no-break airing will see the storyline jump from the New York focus and will include both original and newer cast members -- yes, including Naya Rivera.
The IB Times reported: "There has been no confirmation if the time jump is still planned with the cut episode order, but it would seem that the series still needs the jump to put their characters back in one place. Last season ended with the characters in Los Angeles, New York and Ohio."
Show creator Ryan Murphy spoke about the final season and said via Hypable: "I'm sort of reinvigorated about it. It's getting back to what I was initially interested in with the show, which was arts in school. The last season is really about the importance of arts education in our high schools... I think people will like it."
The show's sixth season is expected to return midseason to Fox. With the early 2015 season premiere, it's estimated that the 13 episodes will run through the first semester of the year and end sometime in May.
