The plan by billionaire venture capitalist Timothy Draper to turn California into six separate states, entities that will occupy the lowest rungs of American prosperity, as well as the highest may just make it on California ballot in two years.

"Dude. Why?"

An opinion that ran in the newspaper said Draper must have been in an "altered state" when he thought up the proposal. "Draper's plan seems, well, a bit fragmented," the newspaper said. "It's the kind of thing a guy with money on his hands would do if he were looking for his next venture capital target(s): six new states that owe him something."

A "passive-aggressive swipe"

The magazine termed Draper's proposal an "off-the-wall passion project". An article called it an odd proposal and described it like this: "It's a passive-aggressive swipe at the less economically productive regions of California, cloaked in a measure that purports to be good for all citizens of the state.

Tim Draper wants the protection afforded by the United States government, without having to submit to the taxes and regulatory slow-footedness coming out of Sacramento. He wants Silicon Valley to be independent enough to play around with drones and genetic engineering, but not so independent that it needs its own military."

"You get better representation in Congress."

The website spoke to analyst Rob Enderle of the Enderle Group who saw several positives the proposal. "Silicon Valley would be much better able to protect itself, " he told Toptechnews.com. "And arguably the states that had more agriculture could be structured more for agricultural interests. You get better representation in Congress, which gives you a much louder voice -- a voice probably more in keeping with the number of people that are here -- and a much tighter focus to promote the area as a place for technology and to promote the technology itself both nationally and internationally."

One reader sent a letter in to the San Jose Mercury News to expression support for the proposal. "California, as it currently exists, has become to bloated and would be better served with more local representation and accountability, the reader said. "Keeping tax revenues generated in the San Francisco/Monterey Bay regions local is also a major benefit of Draper's six-states plan. No more need for our hard-earned cash to be spent in Sacramento, Redding or Los Angeles. Yes to six states."

The Los Angeles website said the plan is ridiculous in one recent post on the subject and before that referenced it as a bizarre ballot initiative."One that would not only split California into six separate states but also turn Silicon Valley into its very own state. Draper's libertarian pipe dream is called "Six Californias."
