A massive, wind-fueled wildfire is burning through the beautiful Leavenworth, Washington landscape, and the inferno has chased residents out of nearly 900 homes in its wake.
As of the most recent reports, there was zero containment to the massive blaze, and the gusts of wind the area experienced on Wednesday and into Thursday are acting as a catalyst to push the fire into even more dry timber.
The fire's smoke plume is visible for miles, and is rising almost 25,000 feet into the air. According to residents, the massive wildfire is almost as picturesque as it is destructive, with the hue from the burn setting the sunset into a bright red color.
The blaze has closed 35 miles of U.S. Highway 2, stretching from Leavenworth to Stevens Pass in the Cascade Mountains, and the photos of the fire surfacing on social media sites are evident as to why.
Photos of billowing smoke clouds and burning orange flames posted to Twitter look more like the surface of a volcano than the Washington landscape. Here are the most unbelievable photos of the Washington Wildfire on Twitter, and let's hope they get this thing contained soon.
