17-year old Luis Alonzo Alfaro confessed to fatally stabbing another 17-year old according to authorities, says My Fox Houston.
Joshua Broussard, a sophomore at Spring High School in Spring Texas died 7am Wednesday after a fight involving several high school students. Three others, two aged 16 and one aged 17 are injured.
The stabbing occurred in a school corridor where Alfaro admittedly pulled a knife - stabbing Broussard and injuring 3 others. Alfaro has already been charged with murder and has a $50,000 bail at Harris County Jail, says the Sheriff's Deparment.
According to ABC News, the fight was rumored to be gang-related although no confirmations and details have been released yet.
"We believe a confrontation of some sort occurred ... that ultimately led into a physical confrontation that produced weapons," Sheriff Adrian Garcia said in the report. "There has been some information that this may have been gang-related."
However, according to a report by the Los Angeles Times, students have been commenting on tweets over social media of an alleged racial tension in the school. Specifically, tensions arose between black and Latino students. This was also reiterated by a pastor of one of the victim's families.
"It was an ongoing battle between kids of different races. A simple misunderstanding that has been ongoing over a period of time.... This was not gang violence," said Pastor E.A. Deckard of Green House International Church in the report.
The school, which has roughly 3,500 students, was put to a 3-hour lockdown after the stabbing incident. The parents of students were only updated after the 3-hour period which angered most of them.
Most parents are also considering transferring their children to other schools. Others are looking at home schooling as an alternative.
"We're not coming back, we're going to be home schooling. There's been fights, there's been gangs, I hear all kind of things from my daughter about this school," an upset mother of a 10th grader told KHOU from outside the school says a report from the Daily News.
The school will be closed for the week (Thursday and Friday) and will be providing crisis counselors to students in need of help.
