The highly anticipated iPhone 6 is expected to debut sometime in September and reports indicate that Samsung is not going to let it launch without a challenge. The Samsung Galaxy S5 Prime, or what's also referred to as the Galaxy F or Galaxy Alpha (for its South Korea market), will reportedly be unveiled mid August and will be released in September, alongside the iPhone 6.
The IBTimes AU notes that while Samsung has been releasing device after device, the company is gearing towards the big reveal of Samsung Galaxy F, pegged as the Korean tech company's high-end product.
So, as the Apple vs. Samsung rivalry continues, let us pit the specs and features of the phones to see which will be the better buy come September.
Build and Body: The iPhone 6 is expected to sport a slimmer and sleeker build than its predecessor, the iPhone 5S, and will come in two sizes, the 4.7-inch and 5.5-inch display. Similarly, Samsung is said to be targeting a luxurious finish for the device and will upgrade the existing Galaxy S5 body by using a metal finish, giving it a more premium and polished look.
Display and Resolution: According to GFXBench, the S5 "Prime" is going to feature a 5.2-inch display with QHD resolution (2,560×1,440 pixels) as compared to the next-generation iPhone's 1704 X 906 pixels with a 416 ppi for the 4.7-inch display and 365 ppi for the larger 5.5-inch, reports MacRumors.
Storage: The iPhone will probably carry the same internal storage capabilities but rumblings have beeen heard that Apple may not offer a 16 GB entry-level device. It will reportedly up its phone memory by providing a 128 GB phone option. Samsung, on the other hand, will be going for either a 16 GB or 32 GB onboard storage with support for external cards up to 128 GB.
Performance: The iPhone will be fitted with the new and improved A8 chip set while rumors indicate Samsung will be going for a 2.5GHz quad-core Qualcomm Snapdragon 805 processor.
Battery Life: Battery performance has been a weak area for Apple but reports indicate that there will be improvement. KnowYourMobile.com lists the iPhone as having something in the range of 1,700mAh to 2,000 mAh while Samsung will be more powerful at 2,800mAh.
Other Features: In terms of the camera, the Prime is expected to house a rear 16 MP camera and front shutter at 2 MP while the iPhone will sport an 8 MP camera. Apple has never been one to anchor its technology to the camera. It provides a consistent high-quality camera and focuses on other internal software offerings, especially with the new iOS 8.
What're your thoughts? Are you going to support Samsung or Apple this fall?
