The Characters
Bill Masters
The first Season 2 episode of "Masters of Sex" follows from last season with Bill Masters picking up the pieces from his controversial sex study presentation. The study caused him to lose his job at Washington University. Bill gets another job, this time at a hospital, to lead the obstetrics department. The episode also shows Bill having to deal with being a father to a young child. He gets into an arguement with his mother who comes to help care for his son.
Virginia Johnson
Virginai has to deal with unwanted advances from people who think that she was the woman in presentation film.
Barton Scully
The university provost, who is gay, checks in to udergoe electroshock therapy. It's a move to cure him of his homosexuality and as a result keep his marriage to Maragret in tact. There's also a scene where Barton attempts to have sex with his wife, but it doesn't quite work out. Later, he attempts suicide in the basement of his home.
Bill and Virginia continue their affair and have a serious discussion about how to move it forward and whether or not the sex is about love or just work for sex research.
Plot and New Characters for Season 2
Some of the new people to enter into the picture include Dr. Doug Greathouse, a doctor at a well-off hospital who's trying to understand Dr. Masters' findings. Dr. Hendricks, who is working on integrating an African-American hospital. There's also Barbara Sanderson, who is Masters' new secretary. And finally, Coral, who will be the new nanny for the family.
This season also will showcase more of actress Sarah Silverman as Helen. Tvguide.com offers and idea of what the role may be: "Looking at history, there was an Austrian-born sex therapist named Helen Singer Kaplan who founded the first clinic in the United States for sexual disorders. She also encouraged people to enjoy having sex as much as possible. That sounds like a good fit for this series."
One major spoiler for the upcoming season deals with prostitutes, reports the Ibtimes.com, " 'Masters of Sex' hasn't used the brothel much since Bill and Virginia's study was allowed in the hospital, but somehow the prostitutes will be back. Erin Cummings will play Kitty, a high class hooker who helps Virginia and Bill with their study."
