Angelina Jolie has reportedly begun the process to sue the Daily Mail for publishing a video they claim shows her addicted to heroin in the early '90s.
The UK newspaper suggested that the footage, which was taken from the National Enquirer, depicted a conversation between Jolie and her father Jon Voight about her brother James and late mother Marcheline Bertrand.
The footage was reportedly shot by former drug dealer Franklin Meyer, who claims he supplied cocaine and heroin three times a week to the actress, and then allegedly recorded the footage. He sold the footage to the tabloids, and it has been picked up by both local and international outlets.
According to a number of reports, Jolie believes that publishing the video was a gross invasion of privacy.
That’s what the Times of London claims anyway, via HuffPo UK:
Angelina Jolie has reportedly begun legal action against the Daily Mail for publishing a video it claims showed her while she was addicted to heroin in the 1990s.
The newspaper suggested the footage, taken from the National Enquirer, featured a conversation between Jolie and her father Jon Voight about her brother James and late mother Marcheline Bertrand.
The Times writes Jolie is believed to regard the publication of the video as a gross violation of her privacy.
This is hardly the Daily Mail's first brush with celebrity backlash. The tabloid was forced to apologize to George Clooney only days ago after posting a story that his fiancee's mother objected to their wedding on religious grounds.
Clooney called their actions "criminal," and has spoken out against the paper's behavior a number of times since.
One insider told the New York Daily News: "This Angelina story is ancient history.
"Pictures like this have been floating around for years. The Enquirer has run pictures like this before.
"They're just revisiting old news that they think people have forgotten about and slapping a big 'exclusive' on it.
"The video was probably floating around back then, too. Thing is, nobody cared about the video back then."
