Republican Texas Gov. Rick Perry has clashed with President Barack Obama over the immigration crisis in his state's southwest border, saying the president isn't doing enough to stem the flow of tens of thousands of undocumented children.

But after a recent meeting on Wednesday between the president and the governor it looks like Obama is ready to lend a hand once congress passes a $3.7 billion supplemental border spending  bill.
"He [Perry] was concerned that some of the positioning of border patrol agents is too far from the border to be effective in deterring folks from coming in as opposed to simply apprehending them," Obama was quoted as saying in an article in The Guardian.

"I indicated to him that what he said made sense ... if we pass the supplemental we would have the resources to carry out some of the things that he has requested," the article reported.
Obama has urged Perry to press Republicans to help pass the spending measure.
Perry had originally refused to greet Obama when he arrived in Texas on Wednesday, saying instead he wanted a formal discussion on the state of border security with the president. Obama is in the state for a series of Democratic fundraising events.

Despite Perry's initial claim of not wanting to greet the president, according to Bloomberg.com,  the governor was waiting when the president arrived at the airport. Perry joined the president in a helicopter ride to Dallas. Other media outlets including CBS have reported prominent Republicans in the state, such as Republican Senator Ted Cruz called on the President to visit the border with Mexico to see for himself how the influx of young children was being handled. He even sent the president a map with directions from his fundraising trip to Dallas and Austin, according to CBS

Steve Munisteri, chairman of the Texas Republican Party, told Bloomberg that, "If the president doesn't address this problem pretty soon, it could be his political Waterloo." Munisteri, the article said, "suggested the president is avoiding the border," adding that "[The president] doesn't want to acknowledge his political failure. If he goes down there, it gives publicity to his policy failures of several years."
