The mysterious disappearance of pregnant military spouse Erin Corwin continues to be shrouded in mystery as authorities continue to investigate the case.
Lance Cpl. Jonathan Corwin reported that there was nothing strange about his wife when she left their Twentynine Palms home about 10 days ago. To date, Corwin has still not been found, and little is known about the details surrounding her disappearance.
Police found Corwin's 2013 Toyota Camry in Twentynine Palms the day after she was reported missing. Authorities have yet to comment on whether potential evidence was found inside the vehicle.
Corporal Randy Naquin, public affairs officer with the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Department, told reporters that "we're utilizing every resource we have" in search for Corwin.
The search party consists of canine and helicopter units as well as highly trained search and rescue team. Volunteers continued to search Joshua Tree National Forest, the area where Corwin was heading when she left her home, over the weekend.
Allegations of foul play have been suggested, but Naquin says, "We're not naming any persons of interest or suspects until we're convinced a crime has been committed. Right now we're treating this as a critical missing person case."
Local reports cite that Jonathan Corwin told authorities that his wife was scoping out a Joshua Tree campsite ahead of a family trip that had been planned months ago.
Erin Corwin's mother was planning a trip out to California to see Erin for her birthday. The two had already purchased tickets to Sea World, according to authorities, and Corwin is not known to have existing medical or psychological illnesses.
Jonathan Corwin is said to be cooperating with authorities, but it is still unclear whether investigators have searched his computer, car or home.
"If my wife didn't show up for dinner, I'd report her missing sooner, but I don't know what the family dynamic is between Erin and her husband," Naquin said. "I don't know if they were used to spending a lot of time apart. And I also don't know if there were problems between Erin and her husband."
Naquin said that authorities as well as homicide detectives are investigating "various leads" that have since come forth after Corwin's disappearance.
Anyone with information about Corwin is urged to call the San Bernardino County Sheriff's Specialized Investigation Division at (909) 387-3589.
