Another Brazilian fighter, Marcos Souza, had a leg crumble barely seconds into a round during a match against fellow light heavyweight, Cristian Goetz at the weekend event, Favela Kombat 10 in Sao Goncalo, Brazil, reported the Daily Mail.
Watch the shocking video below:
In case you haven't noticed yet, the footage above is not from the December match between Anderson Silva and Chris Weidman--although MMA Junkie, and most everyone else who shared the video, noticed the eerie parallelisms. Souza was wearing Silva-like yellow trunks, it said, and everything went down with the opponent's check on a kick.
At UFC 168, "The Spider" broke his left leg attempting a low kick on December 29 last year, MMA Kanvas recalled, adding that when Goetz responded to Souza's low kick much like Weidman, the Brazilian's lower left leg had an unnatural bend.
Souza fractured his right leg in horrendous fashion, the Daily Mail commented. Just 37 seconds into the third round, Goetz blocked the Brazilian's kick, triggering the leg to crumple as the latter stepped back. According to The Official MMA Nation, Souza intended to hit Goetz in the leg but instead was met with the knee of Goetz.
Medical staff immediately rushed in after Souza fell on the canvas. "Rino" fractured his right tibia and is expected to undergo surgery Monday, MMA Fighting reported, quoting Favela Kombat officials. Recovery from the type of injury Souza got will likely take him out of the ring for 4-6 months, MMA Fighting added.
Back in late December, people were wondering if Silva would ever get back to fighting form looking at how bad his fracture was, but he had an impressive trajectory in just seven months. MMA Junkie--and all his fans--are hoping that Souza could come back from the injury and in as swift a fashion as Silva, who is scheduled to go back to the Octagon in early 2015.
