Sorry folks, as beautiful as the concept was for the BMW M4 Series Gran Coupe, latest intel indicates that it won't be a reality anytime soon.
According to CarsGuide AU, the M4 Gran Coupe was supposed to be the smaller M6 Coupe that would have been a cross-between some of the popular BMW models. However, the dream car shall remain a dream as of now.
The outlet reports that: "BMW's M GmbH performance arm sales boss Jörg Bartels confirmed the decision not to build a hot M version of the recently launched 4 Series five-door coupe hatch at this week's Australian launch of the new M3 and M4 performance models."
The site quoted Bartels as saying: "That is a negative. It was definitely considered, but there is no plan to build an M4 Gran Coupe."
He continued to explain that the decision to pull back from the plans was because of the "expected production volume" also, the 3-Series, 4-Series coupe and 4-series Gran Coupe are all manufactured in different German factories, meaning the challenges and operation expenses wouldn't make sense at all.
For those who aren't too familiar with Bimmer models, DigitalTrends.com explains that in the recent years, BMW has sought to expand its range of vehicles. The Gran Coupe is a four-door car model, similar to the sedan 3-Series but has a more Coupe-feel thus its branch into the 4-Series line.
Additionally, the site notes that in terms of volume sales, the price of production would just prove to be too much. Why wouldn't it be a stand-out seller? There isn't too much of a distinction.
"It may seem like a bit of a loss at first, but the Gran Coupe's styling is so similar to that of the 3 Series sedan that the two models are almost interchangeable. An M4 Gran Coupe would have just been a slightly better looking version of the M3," continued DigitalTrends.
BMW has already unveiled its 2015 M3 Sedan and M4 Coupe, which according to RoadTrack.com, both come with "new turbocharged engines, new naming conventions, less mass, and a raft of new tech." It's also lighter than their predecessors with both using carbon fiber-reinforced plastic and their body panels are made of aluminum.
For the hard-core drivers out there, both cars are still available with a clutch pedal.
