A report issued by the Office of Minority Health at the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services has pinpointed young Latino males as one of the highest uninsured groups in the nation.

According to the report, 43 percent of uninsured males ages 18-24 are Latino. When examining uninsured males ages 25-34, about 42 percent are Latino.

By using these statistics and examining the underlying causes of the group's uninsured status, the U.S. Department of Health may be able to come up with new ways for the uninsured to finally become insured.

The report looked to answer questions on why Latino millennials have the highest uninsured rate. Socioeconomic issues such as education and income were looked into.

Around 60 percent of uninsured Latino males have a high school diploma, compared to 70 percent of Caucasian and African Males. When it comes to having a college degree, only 6 percent of insured Latino males have one.

A big issue in uninsured households is the fact that many of them are "limited English proficient." About 24 percent of uninsured Latino males identify as a part of this category.

The report also found that 81 percent of uninsured Latinos live in a household with a least one full-time worker. The report did not specify whether the person answering the questions was the worker, or if it was another member of the family.

With the help of this report, President Obama hopes to better address uninsured minority issues.

According to the Department of Health and Human Services, "This type of data and knowledge about uninsured minority males can help inform targeted interventions and outreach efforts to improve enrollment opportunities for minority men in health insurance coverage, including the open enrollment periods for the Health Insurance Marketplace."

The numbers are a far cry from the majority, and is an indicator of the educational gap that minorities often face. The Affordable Care Act's goal was to make healthcare an affordable service for all Americans.

While there are many pros to the law, the issue remains that one of the highest demographics that are still uninsured are Latino males, ages 18-34.
