Uber has been one hot topic lately - especially in the city hall of Dallas where the private car-fending app is getting a "get legal or get gone" notice.
With Yellow Cab leading the fight, Uber might have to undergo a complete makeover with a pending ordinance to finally regulate the said app.
Uber is a car for hire service app which allows users to connect with a driver at the tap of a button. The app is currently available in 17 countries including 24 cities in North America with one being Dallas.
Now Uber is to be subjected to a complete makeover which includes:
Making the rider (app user) wait for 30 minutes before using the car, Limit limousine vehicles to those that cost $45,000 or more, Create a minimum limousine fare, Classify Uber as a transportation provider thereby requiring the San Francisco-based application company to get the "proper" license.
Read the complete proposed ordinance regarding Uber HERE.
Because of the above regulations, Uber has created an online petition which now has over 15,000 signatures as of writing.
"We Dallasites love our Uber. Uber has provided a convenient, efficient, safe and classy transportation option that has made getting around the city much easier and much more enjoyable. It has simply made our city better," reads the online petition.
Dallas Mayor Mike Rawlings said in a report by Dallas News:
"I want crime to go down. I want our citizens to be happy and to get to the airport on time and not to drive drunk, and I want us to be state of the art. What's clear to me: I also do not want businesses thinking they can get around loopholes and hide behind the skirts of legalism. We can criticize the use of vice officers, but the minute we have a limo driver who's not licensed and something bad happens to someone's daughter because they took that limo, we'd be the first to say, 'Why didn't we jump on that?'"
The proposed ordinance regarding Uber will be reviewed by Dallas' city councils Wednesday.
