Let the smartphone battle begin.
Samsung has released a new ad for its new flagship smartphone, the Samsung Galaxy S5, and it targets rival company Apple head-on.
In the ad called "Wall Huggers," Samsung directly makes fun of Apple devices and its users because of its alleged short battery life and performance. The ad shows a number of iPhone users attached to walls and outlets depicting the Apple users as slaves to the outlet due to its constantly low-batt devices.
Apparently iPhone users are "stuck here [at an outlet] until your battery says so."
The video's description reads: "That moment when your phone conveniently chooses the most inconvenient time to run low on juice. Switch your Galaxy S5 to Ultra Power Saving Mode or swap in a fresh spare battery and say goodbye to the wall huggers for good."
The ad begins with a voice over: "There they are. Clustered around power outlets, near the recycling bins, stained carpeting, and bathrooms. Tethered to the wall. Denied the freedom to enjoy even the most basic things, like grabbing a drink, or sharing a laugh with your co-workers. Or sitting with someone you know. You're stuck here until your battery says so."
Most of the footage is shown in the airport and it cannot be missed that each phone attached to an outlet with a forlorn looking user is holding an Apple iPhone. Samsung users on the other hand are able to enjoy themselves, walk around without needing to "plug in" constantly. A scene of a girl looking at her Galaxy S5's battery status that says 10% remaining with an estimated 1 day of standby time was also shown.
In another scene, a man looks to a stranger beside him and says, "says here the new iPhone's coming out soon" and a voice off screen responds, "hope it has a better battery."
Samsung's S5 was released in February this year and aside from neat features like water-resistant casing, fingerprint sensor and heart rate monitor, Macrumors notes that one of the key features of the S5 is its Ultra Power Saving Mode that automatically alters settings to ensure optimal performance for a longer period of time.
The site notes that while Apple hasn't developed the same technology for its smartphone, it does provide quick access to settings that allows users to quickly turn off connectivity and other functions to prolong battery life.
Phonearena.com recalls back in March when the term "wall huggers' was first used by BlackBerry CEO John Chen as a description of iPhone users. Samsung seems to agree with Chen.
The highly anticipated iPhone 6 is rumored to drop September 19 and more eyes will be on Apple's battery performance.
