If all the rumors are true about Apple's line of products, aside from the flagship and buzz-generating iPhone 6, iPad Air 2 and iWatch, laptop users will be pleased to know that the MacBook Air is also getting revamped.
Sources indicate that a new 12-inch MacBook Air is going to solidify Apple's ultra-thin laptop collection by filling the gap between its existing 11-inch and 13-inch MacBook Air devices.
DigiTimes wrote that "Quanta Computer will be responsible for the assembly of the 12-inch device," according to its sources and "so far, they have not heard any changes coming to the 11- and 13-inch MacBook Air products."
In terms of when the device will be available in the market, DigiTimes indicated that the 12-inch portable computer will be entering production this third quarter. Initially it was supposed to begin production earlier but has been delayed. This would mean that the device would be available sometime in December this year.
Apple is reportedly making the move to bump up the size of the MacBook Air because its screen size is similar to that of the larger iPad, which has hurt the demand for the laptop. This move seeks to create a clear distinction between the iPad and the laptops, noted TrustedReviews.
So the question now is, what will happen to the 11-inch MacBook Air? DigiTimes reported that "As for when Apple may stop producing the 11-inch MacBook Air, the sources pointed out that the company so far still has not yet set plans to adjust the 11-inch model, but phasing out the device is a logical plan for the long term."
The laptop is said to have been developed as a combination of the best features of the 11 and 13-inch models. It will showcase the performance of the 13-inch Air and made more appealing as it bears the 11-inch's portability. It's also being suggested that the 12-inch model will carry the retina display feature, making it's display top-of-the-line quality.
One of the main elements that Apple could capitalize on is enhancing the 12-inch device's battery life. Should it be packed with a retina display, according to Breathcast, the 11-inch model has approximately 9 hours of battery life but with the high resolution of retina-display, it would decrease the battery's performance longevity.
"It will be necessary for Apple to strike a compromise between slender design and extended battery life, if the new device is to be a portable powerhouse," notes the site.
