Move over Apple's iPhone 6 5.5-inch phablet because apparently, Samsung is looking to do a head-on phablet war with its upcoming Galaxy Mega.
Rumors have been rampant regarding Samsung's upcoming Galaxy Mega phablet and latest reports indicate that the gadget could sport a large 5.9 inch model.
According to Techtastic, a Dutch website that noted the specs of the upcoming smartphone on the GFXBench database, the Galaxy Mega 2 is expected to sport a 5.9-inch HD (720p) capacitive touchscreen display.
It is also said to come with Qualcomm's Snapdragon 410 chipset, that has a 64-bit quad-core processor that bangs out 1.4GHz along with an Adreno 306 graphics processing unit, 2GB of RAM and a new Android 4.4.3 KitKat system. When it comes to photo capacity the 4.7 MP front facing camera and 12 MP back camera.
It packs the standard connectivity features of Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, NFC and GPS. More over, it's fitted with sensors like gyroscope, proximity, light sensor and accelerometer.
What is noted as surprising is that the front-camera features are upgraded to 4.7 MP with 1080p video recording capacity. This shows that Samsung is looking to boost its front shutters' resolution, maybe for those who enjoy taking the occasional selfie or usually video chat.
Given that the previous 5.8-inch and 6.3-inch displays were the original size, analysts say that the Galaxy Mega 2 may be sporting a slightly larger screen than it's original entry device but it doesn't pack that much power. It's probably Samsung's effort to target the low to mid range market and it's first legitimate low-end Note-like device for the budget conscious consumer, says TECH2.com.
The large screen is geared for those who enjoy a lot of activity on their phone and is ideal for viewing both photos and videos. The size betweeen 5.5 and 6-inches seems to be an optimal size for both multi-tasking, portability and general phone use. Given that the iPhone 6 phablet is sized a bit smaller, it's a pretty close match-up for the two rival companies.
According to the Samsung website, the Galaxy Mega is described as the smartphone that "delivers a tour de force in mobility." It's marketed as a fun, smart and convenient phone.
It's not known when the SM-G7508 Galaxy Mega 2 is expected to be released, but CNET notes that rumors and a benchmark sighting means its in the testing phase and will be up for release sooner rather than later.
What're your thoughts on the new addition to the Samsung phablet collection? Would you opt for this 5.9-inch over the upcoming iPhone 6 5.5-inch first generation phablet?
