Ah, L.A. The city ban be a big draw for those looking for fantastic shopping and exciting nightlife But a big part of the caliber of a city is based on what creative activities it offers for free: no checking your bank account, no wondering if its "worth it." Just simple pure, free fun.
Money can be spent anywhere, from high priced hotels in Vegas to the tropic shores of Miami Beach, and while those adventures may be fantastic in their own right, they don't offer the sights and sounds that L.A. does.
The Los Angeles area is one of the most entertaining and exhilarating places in the U.S. Within its borders one can hit the beaches in Venice, hike through the Angeles National Forrest, stare up at the skyscrapers of downtown or even hang out with the stars in Hollywood.
Whether you're planning a play date with your friends, family, significant other or even solo, this list of free ideas will make it a memorable trip.
Hollywood Sign Hike
The Hollywood Sign hike is a great 40-minute venture that will take you around the iconic landmark. Although the actual site is private property with fences, you can still hike right up next to it in order to gain a more intimate view.
Hikes are always a great way to get out, catch some sun and leave technology behind. Take Beachwood Dr. all the way up until you see the parking signs. Parking spaces are limited so plan ahead.
Griffith Observatory
For those who have a fascination with science, namely astronomy, the Griffith Observatory is the perfect place. The newly renovated structure offers all kinds of entertainment from actual moon rocks to close up views of the cosmos above.
Olvera Street
Feel like dancing in an open venue? Olvera St. always offers the best Latin flavored dancing in the middle of Los Angeles. There are all kinds of little shops and carts, which sell trinkets and knick-knacks, but in this environment even window-shopping is a fun experience.
Downtown L.A. Art Walk
The second Thursday of every month downtown L.A. offers an art experience like no other. Many people can grow tired of art hanging in a pristine museum, but the atmosphere of the outside art walk gives a true taste of the L.A. vibe.
Whether the artist is professional or an amateur the art and experience are always enjoyable.
La Brea Tar Pits
It's fascinating to be walking down Wilshire Blvd. in a dense urban environment only to turn the corner and see a massive pit of tar with dinosaurs and other prehistoric life trapped inside.
The experience is a must in L.A., and although entry into the actual museum costs money, you can still see the tar pits and walk around the park free of charge.
