The tension between the camps of Floyd Mayweather Jr and Saul Canelo Alvarez is starting to heat up as their upcoming World Boxing Council and World Boxing Association junior middleweight title showdown nears.

After "Sugar" Shane Mosley and renowned trainer Nacho Beristain gave their takes on the highly-anticipated showdown, Golden Boy Promotions chief Oscar De La Hoya joined the fray and predicted a victory for the young Mexican.

De La Hoya, who once tried to deal Mayweather his first defeat in 2007 but failed to do so, recognized the tremendous boxing skill of Mayweather, but the "Golden Boy" said that Alvarez will vanquish the undefeated American on September 14th at the MGM Grand in Las Vegas.

"I respect that he's beaten everybody and he still has that 'O' on his record. But one thing that Mayweather has to understand is that my fighter is going to kick your ass," said De La Hoya in a press conference, Yahoo! Sports reported.

De La Hoya also shared the same opinion of Beristain, saying that an Alvarez victory would be the biggest win by a Mexican fighter in history. He said thatAlvarez handing to Mayweather his first-ever defeat will be even more historic than Julio Cesar Chavez Sr.'s dramatic win over Meldrick Taylor.

"It would be the biggest win ever by a Mexican fighter, because Mayweather Jr. is undefeated, he is a difficult fighter to face, he is a crafty fighter and this will be a mega event that everyone will be watching. This victory would be very important for everyone in Mexico. For me, Canelo is already a superstar. The people know him, admire him and respect him. The most important thing is to win fights. People want to see you win. He is already admired by people outside the ring, but I have no doubt that when he walks away people are going to consider him the best in the world," De La Hoya told Rodrigo Azurmendias reported by Boxingscene.com.

In the past, De La Hoya also predicted a Mayweather loss during his bouts against Ricky Hatton, Juan Manuel Marquez, Shane Mosley, Victor Ortiz, MiguelCotto, and Robert Guerrero, but all of them failed to hand the Grand Rapids native Mayweather his first loss.
