On Tuesday, Spain's Rafael Nadal and Russian tennis star Maria Sharapova are among the victors of the first rounds of the Wimbledon.
Nadal, the current French Open champion, faced off with Slovakian Martin Klizan in what Reuters called a "ferocious Centre Court duel." He lost the first set with a 4-6 score but quickly recovered with a 6-3, 6-3, 6-3 scores in the following sets.
Sharapova, on the other hand, won in just two sets against British wildcard Samantha Murray. Seven-time champion Roger Federer, for his part, gave Italy's Paolo Lorenzi a taste of defeat with his 6-1, 6-1 and 6-3 win.
Serena Williams began her quest for another Wimbledon title by defeating fellow American player, Anna Tatishvili, with a 6-1 6-2 win.
"Hopefully I'll get my bearings a little bit and get better," Williams told Reuters in an interview.
2013 Wimbledon champ Marion Bartoli was in tears when she made a brief appearance on the court, prompting the crowd to give her a standing ovation. Bartoli retired a few weeks after she won the Wimbledon championship.
In her Twitter account, Bartoli said "I'm sorry I got so emotional - I couldn't hold my tears being on the Centre Court and supporting #Rally4Bally at Wimbledon."
For the third day of Wimbledon, Novak Djokovic is set to face Czech Republic's Radek Stepanek. Bleacher Report speculated that Djokovic will win after three sets against his opponent who is known as a strong player with a powerful serve.
Chinese star No. 2 Li Na will go against Australian tennis player Yvonne Meusburger for the second round on Tuesday. She is predicted to win by Bleacher Report because of her service power which is believed to ber her edge against her rival.
