Costa Rica is the second smallest country in the World Cup but they have already solidified their place in the group in the second round after beating Uruguay and Italy. England cannot advance after losses to Italy and Uruguay, which means this will be a pride match for England at this point.
When: Tuesday, June 24
Where: Estádio Mineirão, Belo Horizonte
Schedule: ESPN
Time: 9 a.m. PT
Live Stream: ESPN
What to Watch For:
The Ticos are looking to avoid any major catastrophe. If they can gain one point from the game, they will assure themselves of facing Group C's second team. This will be only the second time Costa Rica has advanced to the knockout stage, and it will be the first time since 1958 that England will not advance. This is the first time that England and Costa Rica have ever played against each other in the World Cup.
There is not much weight placed on this game, as Costa Rica will automatically advance, and England will go home. It will still be worth watching to see if England can indeed save face after two devastating losses, or if they will simply give up and leave Belize without further aggravating player injuries.
Predicted Lineup:
Costa Rica: (3-4-2-1) Navas, Duarte, Gonzalez, Miller, Gamboa, Borges, Tejeva, Diaz, Brenes, Campbell, Ruiz
England: (4-2-3-1) Foster, Jones, Smalling, Cahill, Shaw, Wilshere, Lampard, Lallana, Barkley, Milner, Sturridge
