Update (8:08 p.m. PT) -- Four people have been arrested in response to the street celebration in Huntington Park. One woman was arrested on suspicion of throwing a bottle at officers on horseback, and two others for suspicion of public intoxiction. A fourth person was arrested for failing to disperse from the crowd.

It's not very often that World Cup celebrations require the control of police, but Mexico fans are one of a kind.

After Mexico's astonishing win Monday night, fans of the team have spilled into the streets of Huntington Park to celebrate the victory. In return, they've been met by police in riot gear, who are aiming to gain control of the rambuctious group.

A number of fans were making their way down Pacific Avenue in Huntington Park, many of whom were waving flags and cheering. At one point, the fans surrounded a vehicle and began shaking it, obviously overcome by emotion after the phenomenal win.

While fans are welcome to celebrate the win, police are advising them that they must stay out of the street. The following areas are affected by the celebration, which is south of downtown in the area.

  • Florence Avenue
  • Pacific Boulevard
  • Gage Avenue
  • Santa Fe Avenue
  • Alameda Street
  • Slauson Avenue

And while boisterous displays such as these are not a welcome show of excitement, there has been little action by the police on horseback, other than urging people to get off of the street. Two people have been arrested near Alameda Street -- a man and a woman -- and according to video footage, a third was arrested at an undisclosed location.

It's not clear why the trio has been arrested, but the number in handcuffs is only a small percentage of the crowd, and most have made it past officers with no incident.

Mexico prevailed over Croatia 3-1, and will move on to the next round in the 2014 World Cup soccer games.
