Sorry folks, an insider from the production of "Bourne" films has shut down rumors of a Matt Damon return in the popular franchise.

Earlier this week, Universal announced it was delaying "Bourne 5" from August 2015 to July 2016 with Latino-Review reporting that Damon would reprise his role for the fifth installment. The delay in the film's release was done to reaccomodate the original actor, the report added.

According to Frank Marshall, Matt Damon was not the reason for the one year delay in the release of Bourne's fifth installment that was pushed back to July 15, 2016.

"It's simply not true," Marshall reveals to the Hollywood Reporter. He further adds that the film will be a continuation of the last installment, 2012's "The Bourne Legacy" that featured Jeremy Renner playing Aaron Cross.

"[Director] Justin Lin is working with Andrew Baldwin on an Aaron Cross script/story that they pitched us a few months ago. I talk to Justin all the time and the script is not ready. It's a summer movie, and if we don't start preproduction now, we can't make next summer. Therefore, it's a wise decision to move to 2016."

Matt Damon, 42, has spoken about the possibility of returning to the franchise as long as it was director Paul Greengrass who was directing the film. Damon is said to have not seen eye to eye with former director Tony Gilroy.

He told ScreenRant.com previously that he would like to reprise the role but "we just can't figure out the story" and then eventually, a deal was struck with Renner and Gilroy.

Additionally, he said pretty much the same thing to CNBC last month. The "Elysium" actor was quoted as saying: "I've always been open to it if Paul Greengrass is the director. We've just never been able to come up with a story. So if any of your viewers have a story, please call Universal and submit it. It felt like such a good way to end it the last time... But having said that, I love that character and I'd love to see what happened to him."

"Fast and the Furious" director Justin Lin is set to direct the new "Bourne" film and no word, aside from Marshall's statement has been provided.

How about you? Who would you like to star in "Bourne 5?" Do you prefer Renner or Damon?
