Comedian and actor Tracy Morgan has been released from the hospital after showing marked improvement from injuries related to a deadly car crash.
According to Morgan's publicist Lewis Kay, "Tracy has been transferred to an undisclosed rehab center, where he is expected to remain for the next few weeks."
It is the first step in what appears to be a long journey to recovery for the comedian, who suffered critical injuries when a semi-truck collided with his limo bus on the New Jersey turnpike on June 7.
The collision left Morgan and the other passengers trapped within the bus with serious injuries. Investigators suspect that excessive speed and fatigue played a part in the crash.
Morgan spend a number of days in the intensive care unit as a result of his injuries, with the popular actor suffering broken ribs, nose and leg. James McNair, Morgan's friend and fellow comedian, was killed in the crash. Two other passengers were seriously injured.
Questions have ben raised about the speed at which the semi-truck was traveling. Preliminary reports from the National Transportation Safety Administration show evidence that Kevin Roper. the driver of the semi, was traveling 65 mph, which is 20 miles over the posted speed limit.
The report also raises questions as to whether Roper was nearing his legal drive-time limit.
The truck driver's schedule for the day of the crash is included in the report. It shows evidence that he had been on the job over 13 hours, with federal rules permitting a maximum of 14 hours per day. Only 11 of those hours may be spent behind the wheel.
On the day of the crash, Rober made stops in Delaware, New Jersey, and Pennsylvania on his way to New Jersey, and according to CNN, had been awake for over 24 hours at the time of the collision.
Roper has been charged with vehicular homicide and assault with an automobile and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.
According to Morgan's publicist, "While he is continuing to show signs of improvement, he still has a long way to go."
