Secretary of Defense Chuck Hagel ordered the USS George HW Bush to a tactful position in the Persian Gulf. The aircraft carrier will be accompanied by two guided-missile cruisers that could be used for an airstrike against rebel Iraqi forces.

The Islamic State In Iraq and Levant is Sunni group who is seem to be seeking the overthrow of the Shiite government. When America pulled out of Iraq it left a power vacuum that now has lead to rebel uprisings.

The ISIL has already begun capturing cities as they now threaten to march on Baghdad. US politicians are at a standstill in deciding what action should be taken. While most lawmakers would agree that 'boots on the group' is not an option, there is still discussion on whether or not America should intervene.

Launching an airstrike on the Sunni rebels would send a message to the world that America has sided with the Shiite government. On the other hand, to sit back and watch the country erupt into civil war would show that after the American occupation for 10 years did nothing except destabilized the nation of Iraq.

The Shiites and Sunni's have been at war with each other for over a thousand years. Different Middle Eastern countries are ruled by the different factions of the Islamic religion. Iraq's neighbor, Iran, is a Shiite run government and they are offering support to Iraq should the matter escalate.

America is still at odds with Iran due to their proclaimed rights to enrich uranium for nuclear power, and the U.N. issuing sanctions against Iran. A conflict in Iraq would seem to draw the two sides closer together in hopes of protecting their ally. Overall it is interesting issue that Americans will have to wait and watch.

As of now Obama has not decided on whether airstrikes will be necessary to resolve the issue. A major problem is determining where to strike. Since the ISIL occupies various cities with civilians still living there, it makes an airstrike not possible for ethical purposes. What is known however is that the USS George HW Bush is in a key position to be ready for any decision that is made. The threat of military action could all be just a bluff but only time will tell.
