"Game of Thrones" author and mastermind, George RR Martin apparently wants to add more episodes to the hugely successful HBO series.

"I wish we had more episodes," the famed author told the New York Times, "I'd love to have 13 episodes. With 13 episodes, we could include smaller scenes that we had to cut, scenes that make the story deeper and richer."

A particular omission during the first season was the scene in which Arya and Sansa engaged in an altercation after being invited to lunch with Queen Cersei. The Times notes that Martin "misses the scene because it adds texture and helps establish early on the characters of and relationship between the sisters."

Although this is his preference, Martin does recognize the budgetary constraints of producing a colossal project.

An episode reportedly costs approximately $6 million to film, making one single season running up a $60 million to $70 million budget allocation.

Having less episodes might also be one of the reasons why the show is reaping success. Aside from the unique storyline, the short but story-rich 10-episodes could be the key driver of public interest, notes Denofgeek.com. In the U.S., a typical season has 24 episodes which "guarantees diminishing returns in quality", adds Den of Geek.

The TV series is based on Martin's "A Game of Thrones, A Song of Ice and Fire". It has a total of seven books but only five are available. Two more books remain to be finalized and released. The HBO series is already covering the third book, "A Storm of Swords". The cable and satellite netwok has also renewed the series for a 5th and 6th season.

"Game of Thrones" 10th and final fourth season episode which will have a 66-minute runtime to include as much plot as possible, airs Sunday, June 15 at 9 PM ET on HBO.

All fans of the popular series would tend to agree with Martin's view. The spectacular four seasons have been full of surprises and shocking twists. Imagine what could happen if an additional episode, much more if three were added!

Below is the preview for the 10th episode of the "Game of Thrones" fourth season:
