Mexico looked in top form controlling their opening match in Natal against Cameroon and taking home 3-points in Group A. Video of all the goals and the match highlights can be found down below.
"El Tri's" Dos Santos was active early looking in top form. Early in the match he had two goals taken away, but his confidence still remained. One was for an alleged offsides and the second coming from a header off a corner.
Throughout the match Cameroon sat back with 6 and appeared content to let Mexico fire whatever they had at them. Mexico looked early on to be the aggressor even though Cameroon outshot them 10-9. Most of their 10 shots on goals came late in the match when Cameroon pulled their back line and sent in all the troops hoping at least to pick up a point so they could sit in the third position of Group A.
In the 3-1 Brazil versus Croatia match, Brazil had an 'own-goal' which does not give Croatia the extra point. At least grabbing a point on a loss will prove to be decisive when it comes time for the knockout round. When it comes to the World Cup every single trip up the field is of the utmost importance.
El Tri played a masterfully precise game holding ball possession for 60 percent of the match. They were disciplined and looked like a well-managed team. El Tri scored in the 63 minute off the rebound of Dos Santos shot. Dos Santos broke through the Cameroon lines and drew Itandje out from the goal. Dos Santos fired a shot but a diving Itandje was able to fend if off. The rebound shot off to the right and a speeding Peralta drilled it home from '61.
Chicharito was subbed in the 74th minute of the match and seemed poised to make an impact on the match. He had two shots on goal, both of which he should have netted. In the closing moments Peralta crossed the ball to Chicharito right in front of the Cameroon net but the cross was knee high and Chicharito sent it over the net.Mexico has showed that they don't need their alleged star player to be successful in the World Cup. Chicharito hasn't scored in nine matches but that doesn't seem to be bothering the rest of the team. El Tri looked great in their opener and hope to take that momentum into their next test, Brazil.
