The New York Yankees' bullpen received reinforcement on Wednesday as the team reacquired pitcher David Huff in exchange for cash considerations.

In his stint with the San Francisco Giants, the left-hander posted a 1-0 record and a 6.30 earned run average (over 16 relief appearances), Fox News reported.

Previously, the 29-year-old went 3-1 with a 4.67 ERA over 11 appearances, including two starts, with the Yankees. He was traded with the Giants about five months ago, on January 24, also on cash considerations.

According to the Washington Post, the team's familiarity with Huff compelled Yankees manager Joe Girardi to take the player back.

"He did a good job for us last year -- he really did, so he's back... We're familiar with him," the Major League Baseball (MLB) website quotes Girardi as saying.

Huff was sent to San Francisco after the Yankees signed Masahiro Tanaka.

The Giants signed Huff for starting and long-relief depth for the roster, but he was placed on the disabled list (DL) by a strain in his left quadriceps, a separate MLB report recounted.

He was designated for assignment recently to make room for right-hander Matt Cain, it added.

Huff owns a 22-27 career record. In 85 games, including 54 starts, for the Cleveland Indians, Yankees and Giants, he has a 5.38 ERA.

Fox News added that the Yankees claimed pitcher Wade LeBlanc off waivers on June 3 but designated him for assignment to make room for Huff's return. LeBlanc gave up two runs in one inning during his only appearance with the club.

Further bolstering the pitchers' force is the return of Shawn Kelley from the 15-day DL, according to the MLB. The bullpen, the report remarks, is an all-season strength for the New York team.

A lumbar spine strain prevented Kelley from pitching in a big league game since early May, said the report, but the player had no further issues in a pair of Minor League rehab assignments.

The right-hander has a 3.52 ERA in 16 games, mostly in the eighth inning, according to the Washington Post.

Right-hander Matt Daley was optioned to Triple-A Scranton/Wilkes-Barre to make way for Kelley's comeback, according to the MLB report. He appeared in 12 games and had a 4.85 ERA, the Washington Post article added.

According to Girardi, his team chose to keep right-hander Jose Ramirez over Daley because Ramirez offered more distance, the MLB report said.
