Miami Heat, the reigning NBA finals champ and the team fighting for their title against the San Antonio Spurs, is reportedly trying to form its "Big Four" by adding New York Knicks' Carmerlo Anthony this summer in free agency.

ESPN reported that team officials and players are preparing and looking forward to have Anthony on their team to add to the powerhouse game delivered by the trio LeBron James, Dwayne Wade and Chris Bosh.

The same report noted that the Heat cannot make any offical deal with Anthony until July 1 or until the player ends his current contract with the Knicks. Anthony has until June 23 to notify his team of his plans to transfer to Miami.

Last season, the Knicks won in its the division and grabbed more than 50 games in the season, but this year they lacked in performance and the drive to win. Sports World Report said the team were scoring so bad that Phil Jackson was hired as the team's coach.

But the whole team feels it can make a good comeback by getting Anthony to stay in the team and offer him a good amount of money.

On the other hand, Heat star player LeBron James, who is also rumored to sign as a free agent next year, told USA Today that he is "interested" in playing with the Knicks player who he also considers friend. Sports World noted that the team up may not happen now but it can surely happen in the future.

The pairing of Anthony and James, according to ESPN, will be an effective strategy for the Heat as the two are known to be good buddies who can work their magic in the court.

In his radio show on Tuesday, ESPN's Stephen Smith mentioned that Anthony and James have expressed wanting to play together before they end their careers. Other reports noted that aside from the Heat, Anthony is also considering playing for Chicago, Houston and Dallas.

With rumors of the trade, Phil Jackson is said to be continuously urging Anthony to stay with the team and put off his free agency plans for another year.

Asked about his free agency intent, James mentioned in another interview that he is "figuring out how I'm going to prioritize Tony Parker and Kawhi Leonard and Duncan and Danny Green and Ginobili, Patty Mills and Boris Diawand Tiago Splitter and the list goes on and on. Matt Bonner, Gregg Popovich and [Spurs assistant] Ime Udoka and those kind of guys. [Free agency] is the last thing I'm thinking about right now."

ESPN sources claim that the Heat are "trying to emulate" some policies by their Finals opponent, keeping their three star players Tim Duncan, Tony Parker and Manu Ginobili for about a decade while strengthening team support.

The same report also noted that the three star players of the Heat are now getting mindful of their advancing age. It added that James feels the need to work lesser than usual.
